New Favorite Hair Products!

*Disclaimer: Purchased with my own money*

Hey Guys!

Okay, I've been slacking on the hair posts and I apologize for that! I want to start doing more, so what better way than to show you some of the newer products that have become staples in my hair routine!!

So, first of all, I've been natural for 2.5 years and I have 4C hair. I'm pretty sure I have high porosity hair as well, because it stays DRY DRY DRY! To find out about the porosity of your hair, I found this great *page*.

Curl Care by Dr. Miracles Frizz Control Serum: I bought this product on a whim one day while perusing Sally's because I knew I'd be getting my hair straightened and wanted something for shine. This actually turned out to be a better investment than I realized it would be. The directions is to use it on wet hair, but I found it kept my hair frizz free on dry hair as well. $5.99

Taliah Waajid Protective Mist Bodifier: Oh Em Gee... [yes, I went valley girl!] This product makes my hair feel like butter when I'm combing through it!! It coats my hair and instantly makes it feel softer and more manageable. I feel like this product lets my hair get some moisture and actually soaks it up instead of it just sitting on top of my hair doing nothing. It's a thicker jelly like consistency, so the spray bottle sometimes makes your finger tired because not much product comes through with each spray. $6.99

Hair freshly straightened [Please excuse the quality of these photos, they were taken with my front facing camera]

My horrible attempt at Bantu Knots using just the Anti Frizz Serum. Haha, I'm learning!

Bantu Knot Out results

As you can see [hopefully], my bantu knot out came out perfectly and were shiny and frizz free. The bottle states that it helps hold curls for up to 12 hours but I can't necessarily prove that claim because I've only had my hair down for about 8 hours max. The curls were still poppin after those 8 hours, though, so I'm sure it could carry on into 12!

I'm really thankful to have discovered these two products and I truly feel like I can call them my HGs. I'm already on my second bottle of the Taliah Waajid product, and I know I will repurchase the serum as well!

What are your new or HG hair products that you can't live without??

My Hair The Past Week :)

Hey Guys!

As many of you know, I am a natural haired girl but I mostly keep them in braids because I find it easier to maintain in my lifestyle! I usually let my hair stay out and "breathe" for a little while so I can do any kind of treatments I need to do if it happened to get too dry while in my braids. So here's my hair from last week!

Failed Chunky Twist Out
Successful chunky twist out!!

Another twist out with smaller twists.
Twist out. I pinned the sides back and let the front be a bang.

Same day as the picture above. I ended up twisting and pinning back the front.

As you can see, I love twist outs! They're fairly quick to do and I love the results. I need help with chunky twist outs, though, because they 8/10 never turn out right. Any advice?

Moisturize Your Hair!!

Hey Guys!

Since it gets really hot here in Alabama, retaining moisture in my hair is super critical and somewhat a difficult task. Through research and experience, I've come up with a few tips that'll help you keep your hair moisturized all year round!

  • No product is more important to your hair than water!! Your hair literally drinks it up!
  • One reason your hair becomes dry is because you aren't properly "sealing" it in with oils. My favorite oils to use are Extra Virgin Olive Oil/Coconut Oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, and Jojoba Oil.
  • Use a moisturizing deep conditioner with heat. If you can't use it with heat, try to at least let the DC stay on for a few hours for optimum results.
  • Do a final rinse with cold water, it's a shock to your senses, but that's what helps close your cuticles and help your hair stay moisturized longer.
  • Sleep with a satin cap/pillowcase! Sleeping on cotton will suck all of the moisture out. No Bueno.
  • Use a leave-in conditioner after you shampoo and before you add any other oils/creams. It's an extra layer of protection.
  • Use the "baggying" method.

I hope these tips helped, Thanks so much for reading!!!!

First Twist Out Since BC! + New Products

I'm so happy with how my first twist out turned out! I showed you guys a couple of days ago my hair with the twists I did with Shea Moisture Curling Smoothie.

Yay!

I also picked up some new products [and replenished old favorites] to try on my hair:

I tried a second twist out with my Curling Smoothie and the Eco Styler gel I bought and I did not like how it turned out at all! It looked nothing like the picture above! The two differences were: I did it on dry hair [which I was told would help with shrinkage] & I used the gel. I'm not sure which one made my twist out unsuccessful, but it was very frustrating to take hours doing twists and to not have them come out right!

Right now I'm wearing my hair in a faux mohawk with the sides twisted and pinned up and 2 day old twist out.
I had to filter the picture to make it lighter. Look how poofy my hair looks ^_^
Excuse the weird face lol

Well that's it regarding my hair. I'm still experimenting with it and this length. It's still too short to do a poof just yet, unfortunately. Thanks so much for reading!!!

Products I'm Going To Be Trying. . .

This past weekend, I stopped into Ulta and noticed they were having a BOGO1/2 off on the Organix Line so I picked up two of the Coconut Milk shampoos since I'd been looking for a sulfate free shampoo. I've also heard about other Naturals raving about the Shea Moisture line at Walgreens, so I picked up the Deep Treatment Masque and Curl Enhancing Smoothie. I'll let you guys know how these work on my hair very soon! =)

Hanging With My Little Sister!

Hey Guys! I'm so happy to be able to write a fresh post! This weekend I went to Tennessee to visit my little sister and hang out with her for a little while. I had a lot of fun and I did not want to come home!! I only took a few pictures because I'm without a camera so my phone has to suffice!

I did a blow out on my hair and just used a headband to hold it back and added a bow on the side =) [[love bows!]]

Her Breast Cancer Awareness nails

I put press-ons on her nails [even though I REALLY didn't want to!] and painted them for her. I can't remember the names of the polish, but they were both Wet N Wild.  I cant wait to go back and visit. Hope you guys had a great weekend! =)

Natural Hair Log: Week 1

Well, I've been natural for a little over a week and I've learned a couple things about my hair! I've decided to do this NHL every once in a while, just as a personal journal. These are some things I've learned:

  • My hair cannot be "refreshed" with an EVOO & H2O mixture! All it does is mess up any of the curls I had!
  • My hair loves Extra Virgin Olive Oil!! It soaks it up and it shines so brightly afterwards.
  • My hair looks better when it's been flat twisted, rather than twisted into little balls.
  • Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner is a no no! It doesn't react well with my hair's beloved EVOO, so it's got to go! I have to find a better one.
  • I must find a good moisturizing deep conditioner, my hair is too dry and brittle for the protein one I bought. =(
  • I can no longer use Pink Oil Moisturizer!! I got really sad when I found this out.... Darn mineral oil. . .
Well that's all I can think of right now! I haven't been solely working on my edges with any specific oils because I haven't been able to go purchase them yet. I'm just rubbing them with my EVOO and trying not to mess with them too much!

Healthy Hair!

I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to settle for the brittle and dry state that my hair is in. I feel that it's been going on TOO long!! I want need healthy hair on my head! So, I've decided to go natural. I'm not anti-perm, nor am I saying I will never get a perm again... But I do think that I can take care of, and get to know, my hair a lot better without having a perm. I guess I've been "transitioning" for a while now because I have had braids, and when I take them down, I'd cut about 2 inches off and continue to do so. I'm not going to do a BC [Big Chop], I'm not comfortable with my hair being that short. All of the hair on my head right now, though, is in it's natural state and I've decided to finally just wear it as is.

Now. . . . I NEED HELP!!

Lol, I have NO idea what I'm doing! I've been reading up on different things, asking other "Naturistas" tons of questions, reading forums and blogs and I'm slowly getting the idea but I'm nowhere near where I need to be. I started wearing my hair out on Sept. 30, 2011 and I'm very happy! But ask me again in a week...I may be crying! lol

***UPDATE***
  • I'm taking Biotin 5000mg once a day
  • I've colored my hair. . .it's not very visible in the pics though
  • I'm actively trying to grow my edges back[if I can], so if you have any tips or tricks about that as well, please let me know!! =)

I snapped some pics..

blow dried out

curly from big twist balls

lighter reddish-brown hair with more frizzy curls from little, tight balls

A good pic of how much my edges are missing :/
